Several of us drove up to Detroit for the weekend for the auto show. Photos and details from the show to come later. However, I though I'd share what our ride was for the weekend.

The e39 M5 made short work of the trip, and made merging and passing very entertaining. We managed 21 mpg highway, and only one check engine light and subsequent "limp home" mode event, making it a successful trip.

Ah, BMW owners, I will never understand your crazy love. "It only entered limp mode once!"

you sure it was a check engine light, and that you accidentally didn't just bump the indicators on? #BMWstereotpyes

It's not my M5, nor am I a BMW owner, but I do understand the love. Every time you get in the M5, it just feels different. The acceleration, the handling, the sound, and the interior make it an awesome package that is hard to find anywhere else.

For the 95% of the time it works, it is awesome. I'm not sure I would want to deal with the other 5% on a daily basis.

Nice joke ;) However, the driver did a hard acceleration from a toll booth, causing the traction control to kick in. We think it got confused and put it in limp-mode with a check engine light. We pulled off to the side, restarted the car, and the light went away. There were no problems after that.

The driver did a hard acceleration from a toll booth, causing the traction control to kick in. The traction control killed the power, and we didn't get it back. It behaved like it was in limp-mode, and a check engine light appeared. We pulled off to the side, restarted the car, and the light went away. There were no problems after that.

The owners have had it for 6 months, and already put 6000 miles on it. It's a great driver's car, and they love to drive it.
